Baltic Capitals & St. Petersburg

Two 2008 Cruises Exploring the Norwegian Fjords,
Denmark, Poland, Lithuania, Sweden, Latvia, Estonia,
Finland and Russia

These voyages through the Baltic are offered during the ideal time of the year, around the summer solstice, when long days provide for optimum weather and sightseeing. Visit eight different countries, with nearly three full days to enjoy the spectacular art and architecture of St. Petersburg, Russia. Those aboard the June 21 cruise will also enjoy a full day of cruising the spectacular fjords of Norway.

Copenhagen, beautifully situated on the largest of Denmark’s 500 islands, is known for its rich medieval and Renaissance architecture. Gdansk, Riga and Tallinn were all members of the once great Hanseatic League, formed in 1241 as a commercial alliance to promote trade in Northern Europe. Their historic districts are a delight to explore on foot. From Klaipeda, travel to Lithuania’s capital of Vilnius, with 1,500 historic structures within its Old Town district.

The city of Visby on the Swedish island of Gotland has been inhabited for more than 7,000 years. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is filled with artifacts from the Viking and Middle Ages. In St. Petersburg, marvel at the collection in the Hermitage Museum and see for yourself why the city’s wide boulevards, manicured parks and neoclassical baroque buildings create an air of grandeur that is matched by few cities in the world. From our dock in Helsinki, the nearby harbor market and historic district are festive places in midsummer, with friendly residents and visitors alike sharing the pleasures of balmy weather and the midnight sun.
